Researchers’ Symposium

The science and research community is a key stakeholder in effective sustainable urban development, and one which is far too often under-utilized by local and regional governments when planning and designing sustainable urban development policies.

A dialogue of urban, local and regional practitioners, political leaders and scientists through the format of symposium has been embedded in the official agenda of ICLEI´s World Congress since 2009 in Edmonton, Canada.  ICLEI further advances such dialogues through Resilient Cities Congress series being held annually in Bonn, Germany since 2010.

The Researchers´ Symposium at ICLEI World Congress 2018 aims to gather leading research-practitioners and policy makers to collectively share and exchange knowledge on key aspects and challenges in current and future sustainable urban development. The assembled local leaders and researchers will then jointly drive forward the discourse on how science can be most effectively leveraged in the design of sustainable urban development policies. The event will be an opportunity to be informed about the outcomes of CitiesIPCC Conference held in Edmonton, Canada on 5-7 March 2018 as well as Edmonton Declaration connecting the research agenda to innovation agenda.

The discussions and opportunities for networking and collaboration will be further developed throughout the entire Congress, in particular through Focus Sessions E7 and F7 that coordinated by Future Earth on 22 June Friday at 10:30 and 12:30 respectively.
