P7 Going forward in collective partnerships

With cities as the site of some of the greatest challenges and opportunities for sustainable urban development, local governments are well-situated to play a key role in mobilizing stakeholders and coordinating sustainable local action. Collaborative action and collective partnerships are critical for sustainable urban development, as local governments are unable to solely shoulder the burden of bringing about the necessary change needed in their communities for sustainable urban development. Stakeholders need to be mobilized in a way that most effectively leverages their strengths, and includes them at the most appropriate opportunities in the planning and implementation processes of sustainable development policies.

This plenary will showcase new and innovative ways in which partnerships and collaborations are being forged for collective action toward current and future sustainable development challenges. Keynote addresses will examine the importance of collaborative action from different perspectives, while local leaders and their partners will collectively share and explore how partnerships can enable them to effectively drive forward sustainability in their jurisdictions and in their work.

In conclusion, the ICLEI President and the Mayor of Montréal will give closing remarks and an outlook to congress participants, emboldening them to take the next steps on the journey toward their own sustainable urban future.
